New Warehouse for fine Lamp-Oils, No. 5, New-Street, Covent-Garden, London. / GEORGE DOWNING, LAMP-OIL MERCHANT, respectfully acquaints the Nobility, Gentry, and Public in general, that at his Warehouse they may always be supplied with Lamp-Oils of the purest Quality, Wholesale and Retail, at reduced Prices.—An elegant Assortment of Bed-Chamber and other Lamps, of the latest Invention.—A Night Lamp for Cabins, particularly recommended to Gentlemen of the Navy.—Phosphorus Matches.— Lamp Tapers, and the finest Turkey Cotton. / To remedy the universal Complaint not only of the high Price, but the extreme bad Quality of Lamp-Oils; Mr. DOWNING open'd the above Warehouse on the 13th of September, 1783, and for the Public good reduced the price of Spermaceti Oil from 7s. to 4s. 6d. per Gallon; refined Whale Oil from 5s. to 3s. 6d. per Gallon; and that every consumer may partake of the advantage, no advance whatever is made on the Retail customer, who buys only a pint of Oil. / N.B. The Oil sent to any part of London free of Expence.
